Perl Web-Dev #2: Registration Done

I managed this week to get the registration done. It uses regex so you can’t cheat the system along with some flashy javascript and jquery. It sends out an email with an authorization code to verify your email. It’s very cool. The site is coming along, in a couple of weeks I should get a big part of it done. Then a couple weeks after that, I finish the big part and I can invite people to test it J. So if you like creative writing, post your email on here saying so.

Once I buy the domain name I will start using it in the title of my posts, but for now its top secret.

Perl Web

Ok so my Mech Warfare goals are pushed back, sorry Mech Warfare fans, going into networking and server management, I find Perl more important at this time in my life. I found my Perl development solution and I am learning Perl rapidly. It’s frustrating at first but then it’s sweeter after the frustration. Once I buy the domain name, I will announce it on here. I am currently working on the registration page with ajax. It’s going to be very slick.

For those who like to write creatively then you will enjoy this social website. In theory, it should be workable around August and will run a alpha phase with a few people who sign up to weed the bugs out.

Perl and GTK2 Bindings

This is very cool, perl is a great scripting language and for GTK to also be in the perl modules is just really cool. It’s lacking a couple features the normal GTK+ offers but you can make a pretty decent application, using Perl. :D Now i just need an idea for an application that is needable in the Linux community.

Mech Warfare is back…

It’s been awhile and I have found that motivation again. I am getting rid of the classes, so for now you only have one mech class but with different guns to choose from which will affect your mechs performance.

Summer Goals:

June: Finish the chat server, tie it in with a database so I can log in and out, also get the user registration working.

July: Get map movement, shooting, and basic collision working.

August: Create the game host server and have two clients connect with both being able to see each other and move around.

I hope to accomplish these goals this summer, I still do not have a good understanding with servers and multithreading which may slow me down but I have to try.

Fixed Traps and added Campaigns

I fixed the traps so you will have something to do now when you run into traps. I also created some scenarios or campaigns that you can use when playing the game, the file is included in the zip. I also added a section on what to do when you level up within the guide. My next update will be item drops.

Bug Fix

Found a bug in the dice roller. If you downloaded previously, download it again or wait until tomorrow. I just played it with my wife and the documentation is missing some things that I need to touch up. When playing this game, its best to make some map objectives, such as get this item and return to this spot or even get a timer and try to get to a certain spot to “save” something or someone etc… It will make the game more fun.

Game Master, download available!

I managed to get a working version, I moved the page to my showcase section and tonight I will put the “package” together so everyone can download it and try it out. Just remember it’s in alpha.

I had a hard time getting these arrays to work together, and kept getting out of bounds. There is no story line built in yet but it is still fun, see how long you can survive. You also do not get item drops or spells yet, so do a warrior and make up some weapons.

My rules may be too easy or too much so I will need feedback. Please post your comments and feedback on this post or on the page where the game is.

Thanks.

Game Master Almost Done

Ok, I have been pretty lazy, even my wife thinks I am. I opened the Game Master project and am trying to figure out where I left off. Its really almost done. I just have to put my monsters that I have generated into a main double array along with some story lines and some different encounters and populate that array with the number of tiles the user said he has. Then I need to create a simple printable character sheet and Bam, the game is playable. It will be interesting to see how my character setup plays out and if it needs tweaking.

Please expect a real release date being the end of June.

On the side, I have been watching Lost with my wife and we are now on season 2, its a way cool show.

Subvein your new online addiction

I don’t normally write game reviews or write about other games, but this game is really awesome. Subvein is a top-down shooter with special abilities, missions, tons of weapons with a custom map maker, and soon to have cars. Its a superb well made game and its going to just be getting better. For a full list of features being added and where to download it check this post out. They have screenshots, videos and a forum. The player base is still relatively small but heck it just came out.
